Reflections on TV Shows – Heartstopper

Heartstopper is a joyful show with positive and diverse LGBTQIA+ representation. The sort of representation of young queer people I dreamed of as a baby-bisexual in the late nineties to early aughts.

It can also be triggering or upsetting when comparing the experiences and support network of the young characters to our own experiences as queer teens. Particularly if we were not in a position to safely live our truths then.

This is a valid loss to grieve and acknowledging it with patience and self-compassion can be helpful in processing feelings of grief around what was needed versus what actually happened at the time.

If this is an area that you would like to explore further, I can offer the knowledge of lived experience and non-judgement support as an LGBTQIA+ affirmative counsellor through a therapeutic process which works for you as an individual.
