Reflections on mental health

I'm entering 2024 pretty exhausted by both the state of the world and some personal challenges. I have seen several posts in recent months across social media asking more of the UK government regarding mental health. This seems unlikely based on the hate fuelled rants aimed at marginalised groups coming from (unelected) leaders recently.

Instead I want to focus on areas within our control. Self-care being one of them. Which isn't selfish. It's essential, providing us with the energy and self preservation needed to stay healthy and resilient to whatever life throws at us, reducing stress and anxiety. I practice this through a combination of yoga, writing and checking in regularly with boundaries.

Another is connection. It can be incredibly hard to reach out in our lowest moments, but sharing with an empathetic person can make a positive difference. As a Counsellor, Mental Health First Aider and human being, I am open to offering non-judgemental support to clients, colleagues, friends and strangers.
